Introducing the letter “J”
Objective: To learn letter J with the help of a songTeaching Aid: Make stick puppets of objects that begin with letter J. Different objects that start with J and also with other letters to play memory game. Example: Jam, Jar, Jug, Juice, Jacket, Jeep, Jelly and Jelly Fish.
Method: Greet the class and create energy by warm up activity. Ask kids to swim in the air by moving their hands. Ask them to sit and stand until the energy is built. Ask the kids if they know what they are going to learn today. Introduce the letter J. Show them how it looks like on the board. Sleeping line, Standing line, Curve.
From your mouth make the proper sound of ‘J’ as ‘JJJJJJ’ and ask them to repeat. Ask them to draw the letter with fingers in the air. It is time to learn some new words that starts with letter J. Show the class each object made of stick puppets and pronounce the name.

J is for Juice
J is for Jacket
J is for Jeep
J is for Jelly
J is for Jelly fish
Let us sing a song of the letter J
Hey there, I am J, the letter J
I make the sound “JJJJ JJJJ JJJJ” “JJJJ JJJJ JJJJ”
Come with me, come sing with me.
J is for Jam, J is for Jar;
J is for Jug, J is for Juice;
J is for Jacket, J is for Jeep;
J is for Jelly and Jelly fish.
Repeat again.
Recap: Teacher can play memory game: Show different objects in the class for example, Jam bottle, Jug, Jar, Car, Teddy Bear, cup, etc. For each object that you show in the class, ask the kids if this object starts with “J”? Yes or No? The kids will think about the object and answer. It will help you to evaluate whether the child has understood the concept of letter J.

Activities for letter J
Tracing J in sand or salt
Method: This is a very simple and fun activity. Take sand or salt whichever is available in a small tray. You could even use baking tray of any shape. Show the kids how to trace the letter J with fingers. Once done, ask them to do it on their own.
Jelly Fish Activity
Things required: Paper Worksheet with letter J for coloring. Cutout of Jelly Fish shape as shown in the final picture.
Method: The kids need to first color the letter J in the worksheet given by the teacher. With the help of teacher, they will paste the Jelly fish on the top as shown.
