Creative Art Preschool Activities For Kids

1. Thumb or Finger Painting Art at Preschool: Balloon House from Disney
Materials required: Poster colors, Acrylic colors, white construction paperMethod: Balloon House from Disney movie UP was my favorite. It was really imaginative and I wished it could be real. I tried using finger painting techniques to create this art. It is one of my favorite. You can also help your preschoolers to create this art. Let us look at the method.
- In a color palette, pour the colors of your choice.
- Dip your thumb or finger and take its impression on the white construction paper.
- Now with this technique, there are many arts that can be created.
- Kids love to play with colors.
- They can make hearts, small balloons just floating in the air, bee, anything that serves their imagination.
- I have created the Balloon House from the Disney movie – UP.
- To create this thumb painting art, I had first drawn the house and above the house, I marked the balloon space lightly with a pencil.
- Later, I colored the house with different colors. For preschoolers, you can create this easy template and the children can simply paint it with their choice of color.
- In the marked space for balloon, I started taking the thumb impression followed with different colors overlapping the thumb impression.
- The background is colored in sky Blue to create an effect.
- To complete the art, I have outlined with Black colored marker or you can use sketch pen.

2. Art Preschool Hand Painting: Spiderman, Ninja Turtle
Materials required: Poster colors, Acrylic colors, white construction paperMethod: Painting with hands is really simple, easy and fun. Kids love to color their hands with paint. They will go crazy. Hand painting is favorite part of any kid’s activity class. This can also be used for painting T-shirt. This can also be used for any group activity to make a collaborative art with hand painting for any special day.
- In a wide plate, pour color of your choice.
- Dip your hand or you can also use a brush to color your hand.
- Take the impression of your hand on the white construction paper.
- You can create many arts with the hand painting like a bird, animal, tree or any super hero.
- For the below hand painting art, I wanted to create super heroes.
- For this purpose, I used Red and Green for Spiderman and Ninja turtle respectively.
- After taking the impression on the paper, I have used marker to draw the eyes for both the art.
- Trust me, it was very simple.
- For your kids, you can simply create a template with the Ninja eyes and the Spider web with black water proof marker to avoid stains.
- The kids can then simply paint their hands in water color, preferably poster color and take their hand impression. Try this one out.

3. Art Preschool Activities: Fist Painting Flamingo Bird
Materials required: Poster colors, Acrylic colors, white construction paperMethod: Fist painting technique is another creative and yet simple way of creating art at preschool.
- In a wide plate, pour color of your choice.
- Close your hands and make a fist. Dip your fist or you can also use a brush to color your fist.
- Take the impression of your fist on the white construction paper.
- You can create many arts with fist painting like a pumpkin, bird, sea horse, palm tree or anything that you can possibly think of.
- This art can be done without using any other drawing.
- The kids would love to use this simple technique and create variety of arts on their own.
- For the below fist painting art, I wanted to create Flamingoes.
- So I used the colors Red and White to make it look like Pink Flamingoes.
- First I took the impression of my fist on the white construction paper and made the neck and the beak of two Flamingoes creating a heart shape in the centre.
- Next, I drew the rest part of the body with pencil and colored it.
- Flamingoes are ready.
- To complete the art, I have colored the background in two shades, Green for the bush and blue for the water.
- I have outlined it with Black marker.
- Beautiful Flamingos are ready.

4. How To Paint With Vegetables – Abstract Art
Materials required: Poster colors, Acrylic colors, white construction paper, vegetables like lady finger, onion, capsicum, etc.Method: Kids will really enjoy painting with vegetables. This is a simple activity where the kids can use any of their favorite vegetable to create their art. Teachers or parents need to cut the vegetables for this activity. Let us see the method step by step.
- In a wide plate, pour color of your choice.
- This is a very simple technique. You need to cut the vegetable, remove the seed if any, dip the vegetable in the color and take the impression of it on your construction paper.
- Kids would love to paint using vegetables. Let them explore by first testing the impression of the vegetables on rough paper.
- Let them also create art of their own.
- Vegetable printing or painting can be done in method.
- First way, is to create the entire art with the help of vegetables without using any other drawing.
- In this case you have options for example you can make a necklace using lady finger impression, or a flower field or any landscape scene by taking impression of half cut onion or capsicum.
- You can choose the color of the background to make it look more beautiful. For kids, you can skip this. Try to choose simple art idea like any animal or flower, etc. that is easy to be done by kids.
- For the second method, you create any art or object of your choice, like draw a Panda or any animal and outline it with marker. Inside the object you can then use vegetable of your choice to create the impression.
- For the below vegetable painting art, I wanted to create a scene from the window. So I have first drawn the entire picture.
- Then I have taken impression of lady finger vegetable to make it look like flowers and then painted the leaves with brush.
- Similar impression has been taken on the skirt. The background is also colored.
- To complete the art, I have outlined the girl and the window with Black marker.

5. Leaf Painting Art for Preschoolers: Deer
Materials required: Poster colors, Acrylic colors, white construction paper, and leaves of different shapeMethod: Painting with nature can really be fun and creative. In this activity, we are going to learn to paint with a leaf. Yes, you heard it right. Kids would love to explore nature. This painting technique will be another fun learning activity. Pick up some beautiful big leaves from your garden and get creative with the below painting technique.
- In a wide plate, pour color of your choice.
- With the help of brush, you need to color the backside of the leaf where you can feel the veins.
- Once colored, put the leaf on the paper and press it gently to take the impression.
- Once done, remove the leaf. The leaf painting is done.
- This is a natural art painting technique.
- Leaf painting can be used to create many arts like animal, bird, flower, tree, etc. or anything that you or your kids can think of.
- You can also do this activity to celebrate any special occasion or day like Earth Day, Save Environment, etc.
- To create the below leaf painting art of Deer, I have used leaves that looked like the horns of this animal.
- I have randomly used leaves from plants available in my surrounding.
- First I have drawn the Buck Deer and colored it with Brown.
- Then I used the leaves to make the horns.
- I used other leaves of different shapes and sizes to make tree.
- The background is colored using pencil colors.
- To complete the art, I have outlined the image with Black marker.
- And Deer is now ready!
